About us

After working in the Netherlands for many years with great pleasure and great satisfaction, we emigrated to Medina de Pomar, the capital of this region, in 2010. We wanted to live and work in this beautiful and peaceful region of Spain and experience Spanish culture from the inside. After an extensive search, we found a dilapidated old farmhouse here in 2011 in which we saw the potential to convert it into a small hotel. From September 2011 to June 2013, the house went completely to pieces and, together with a local architect and builders, we were able to realise our ideas. In 2013, we opened the doors of Casa la Sonrisa, ‘the smile’.

In recent years, we have become part of the population here and the bar and restaurant are frequently visited by local residents.

We are proud of the area and of Spanish culture and cuisine. We enjoy sharing this passion with you. We notice that our guests appreciate our efforts by the satisfaction scores on the various websites, which are everywhere around 9.5. This, in turn, to our full satisfaction!
